Pooch Painting, Snoot and Scooby

It was a busy week for me. As well as a few walks, I also managed some more Pooch Painting practise. These two were for my own interest and were inspired and adapted from a couple of dog photographs in the National Geographic magazine.

I have not got a clue what they are called but I thought "Snoot" (He looks a bit snobby) suited the English Setter and "Scooby" (after Scooby Doo) suited the Great Dane. Im very happy with my progress in Pooch Painting, considering Im teaching myself :-D

Scooby was my first steps into trying to paint black fur. I couldn't face attempting an all black dog yet..in case it ends up looking like a black hole. The Great Dane is a lovely tan colour with an all black snitch. I think I handled the black colour well

Snoot was for more practise at long hair dogs.

Pooch Paintings (Kira and Arco)

This weeks weather is more like the weather we are used to in March.. blizzards and freezing winds out the north. Not that the weather affected me much as I was back at Ayr helping my mother with her house and garden chores.

Im please to say that my visits there have helped Holly socialise with other dogs. When I first visited my mum, Holly's only thought was to eat her border terrier and it was very difficult keeping them apart. It's been Holly's main issue since I rescued her, she snarled viciously at every dog we saw on walks. I was a bit concerned about her anti social behaviour to other dogs, and wondered if it was possible to teach an old dog a new trick. Now she will happily pass other dogs as long as they keep their distance, and she now loves running and playing with Sandy ..my mothers border. Now Im home again..Im sure she will miss her new found friends.

The other thing I noticed about Holly is that she is beginning to like the water. On our first walks a few months ago.. she didn't like water and I had to carry her across the burns and streams on the hillside. Now she is happy chasing seagulls along the water's edge at Ayr shore. I have even caught her paddling in the puddles so Im very hopefull she will take to the boating journeys :-D

No other major walks or adventures but I completed another couple of Pooch Paintings this week and Im pleased with my progress and so are the dog's owners.

Meet Kira the mini Schnauzer ... I loved her expressions and it was a delight to paint her :-D



And here is Arco the magnificent Akita .. I was dreading doing an all white dog but she turned out great :-D



I will soon feel confident enought to try a pure black dog ..then I will start targetting the public with my leaflets advertising my service.

Now Im home..I hope to get back to the hill walks ..finish servicing my outboards and get the boat ready for the water.. so I hope you stay tuned for some new adventures :-D

Pooch Paintings (Rory and Sheri)

I cant believe the great weather we are having ..and its only March ?

However the old saying "Ne'r shed a cloot till May is Oot" looks to be true even in this age of global warming. Colder weather with snow showers on the hills has to return on Monday.

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed the good weather, I have been very busy and not had any time for new hill or sea adventures ... yet.

I was visiting my mother in Ayr and doing lots of garden work. Servicing outboard engines for myself. Working round my own house and attending a family wedding.

When I introduced myself to other guests at the wedding, I mentioned I was now retired although Im only 56 years old. My eldest daughter assured me that I was too young to retire and that I was only temporary unemployed. I thought about this for a moment or two then said ...

" Nope.. Im not unemployed...it was by choice ..but I guess Im not retired yet either. However I have left the rat race to follow my dream "

Although I have not yet started advertising my services to the public, the Pooch Paintings are starting to generate a little money and I even have a short waiting list of folks who have heard of my work by word of mouth.

The great thing about Pooch Painting to suppliment my savings is that I can do it anywhere and at times to suit myself. Im not stuck in an office nine to five routine.

If anyone is wondering what I charge for a pooch painting .. Im doing them A4 size .. fully framed for 50 quid.. IMO ..its exceptional value.

So if you are wondering what to give as a present to someone that has a pooch..or even a cat or gerbile, or want to have an ever lasting memory of a family pet.. painted in a way that only I can do.. please dont hesitate to contact me. All I need is a good photograph of your favourite pets pose.

Puppy Love

This is Sam and his girlfriend Brody snoozing together ... it must be puppy love :-D

I have been trying to get the fur looking a bit more realistic so there is a lot more detail in the painting... As usual... a click on the pic will let you see the big picture.

Another couple of months of painting and I hope to make up leaflets and such to start marketing myself ..

Sam the Boxer

Not much has been happening in my life lately...

Im walking the local rounds with Holly but I have not been on the hills and its still too cold for me to think about boat journeys.

To update my blog ... Im still developing and practising my pooch painting techniques and this is the latest :-D
